An Epic Day

Camp is nearly done. I'm currently sitting and listening to one of the classes, and it is really hard to think that camp has only one whole day left and another half day tomorrow. This week has been quite epic. All week I had been (along with a few others) planning for 'The Amazing Race' that we did yesterday. I put together really dumb videos, planning out each leg of the race, assigned teams, placed staff at different places, and planning out our skit night. My whole week revolved around this huge day, and now it is done. Camp has almost died completely.

But everything that we have gone through this week has been so awesome! I would love to just take a bit of time and tell you about 'The Amazing Race' and how it seemed to impact campers. We started off the day by having the teams split up and pick a counselor to join them for the journey. Then each team got to pick their skit theme and team name. The skits themes were four epic movies that they acted out: Lord of the Rings; Finding Nemo; Star Wars, and The Wizard of Oz. Then each team created a flag for their nation and a name: The Galactic Empire; Smurfdom; Great Jehoshaphat; and the Amemonemomne Nation.

Then the Race started off. We had things like Counselor Water Balloon Golf; Eatting Contest; Bobbing for Apples; Team Building; Obstacle Courses; Army Man Hunts; Giant Shalom Runs; Puzzle Building; Scavenger Hunts and the like. It was a really awesome day and very close. The kids hated me though cause I made them run all the way down to the Post Office for not real reason - just cause I wanted them too ha.

The teams battled and fought and they arrived, but that wasn't the end. That following night after the service we set up for skit night. All the students acted out their individual skits and I got to have a cameo in all of them. I was a horse (unicorn); a flying monkey; a dentist; and a Emperor Palpatine. It was so much fun. And then between the skits we had the counselors act out commercials for different products. And then we had a panel of judges (our camp speaker, his wife and rev. ken) rank the skits and pick their favorite commercial. Then we added it all together and wahlah! The night was done.

For me it was just so crazy to think that after a whole week of planning what I'd been pouring so much into was done. But it seemed to go super well, and we all had a blast. Hopefully, in this next day and a half we are able to have more amazing times and also that we can all grow closer to God and closer to each other.
