This morning I was surprised from the get-go. Caleb, my younger brother, was up before me - a rare accorance - and was even done in time to get to breakfast right on the dot. We showed up and the morning was already going really well. Even though I forgot the butter and cream cheese for 'Bagel Day' (go figure) Kyle was able to go next store, graciously, and get some. So the morning - other than our creamlessness/butterlessness - went off without a hitch.
After we were done eatting all of our bagels and eggs. I silenced the crazy crew of boys from talking about cars (a task and a half) and I began to continue to read through 1 Thessalonians. We've been taken a look at a bit more of each week. And this week we took a focus on 'Living a Godly Life'. It began in Chapter 4:1 about living in order to please God in the way were are living and then continued to go on and show us how to do that. Then one first stuck out, "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life." (4:7)
This was very interesting to me because just last week I was talking to Steve (from Solid Foundation Skateboarding - also of TTW) and he was telling me about a sticker he had on his notebook that read, "Don't be a Zombie". He was telling me the sticker was a reminder to his guys at SFNJ not to be so influenced by the world and by media that they become conformed to it, as if they were Zombies. This idea seemed really cool to me, and he gave me some stickers to hand out at the Barn.
So it comes back to this morning. I hadn't yet read the passage for the day and I was planning on giving these stickers to the guys. It was then that the verse hit me, "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life." We cannot be Zombies; we cannot become like the world - pointlessly following the next best thing or what makes us feel good. We are called to live holy lives and to be like Christ, not the world.
So 'Don't be a Zombie', be Christlike.
